Villa Liberata holds a deeply personal significance for me, and there are two key reasons why it stands out. First, this project was my submission for the Study Abroad Competition, where we were given the theme "The Earth." I approached this challenge by designing a home that was environmentally conscious, sustainable, and crafted to inspire a naturally creative lifestyle. The furniture was locally sourced, eliminating the environmental impact of shipping, and creating a thoughtful balance between the old and the new.
The second reason this project is so meaningful is that I dedicated it to my mother, who had been diagnosed with cancer at the time. I named the project in her honor and worked on it while she was in the hospital. Despite my worries, she encouraged me to give it my all, reminding me of the importance of perseverance, even in the most challenging of times.
This project marked my first exploration into the bohemian style, and I found it to be incredibly liberating. It allowed me to experiment with unexpected combinations of colors, textures, and elements, creating something vibrant and unique. For the design, I chose Sherwin Williams paints and wallpaper, and incorporated rugs from Jungalow, which added a warm, eclectic touch to the space.
