Villa Liberata was conceived as part of a competition for the opportunity to study abroad, where we were tasked with designing a home around the theme of "The Earth." In response, I created a concept that embodies environmental responsibility, sustainability, and a lifestyle that encourages natural creativity. The design focuses on locally sourced furniture, with tiles and wood carefully reclaimed and repurposed, eliminating the need for air or sea shipping. This sustainable approach fosters a meaningful connection between the old and the new, creating a striking juxtaposition of past and present.
I envisioned this home in Puerto Rico, where tropical storms are a frequent occurrence. With this in mind, I ensured that both the materials and the structure were designed to withstand the local climate while remaining eco-friendly. The result is a home that not only embraces its environment but also contributes positively to it, blending seamlessly with the natural world around it.
